READING FOR ACADEMIC ENGLISH
Reading is the source of vocabulary building and exposure to comprehensible input. Through reading, learners implicitly learn correct grammatical structures, learn various things about the world through interesting texts, and learn how reading passages are structured. This program helps learners become better readers as it equips them with the ability to skim and scan texts, identify main points and supporting ideas, and understand the meanings of new words through context. The course is also designed to help students develop higher cognitive critical thinking skills which will help them become better analyzers of reading texts. This is done by investigating things such as author's intention, connotation, denotation, inference, and interpretation.
